My Thoughts Going In:
Ah yes, my seasonal fantasy shoujo pick. I always want to love these. I almost always end up hating them. I’ll never fully understand why that is. But I’ll keep adding at least one, provided its premise is strong enough. Because while I find a lot of duds, it’s only by risking the duds that you can find the gems.
In this case, the fact that we don’t have an outright villain story is an instant plus. It’s not that I hate villains, but rather that they’ve been overdone in this style. On the downside, our heroine seems like an absolute doormat. I don’t want a girlboss, but for a character to have absolutely no preferences? They’re gonna have to work hard to sell that to me, and they’re not gonna wanna keep it that way for long.
